Hatfield has been with KGH since May of 2001. Working in the ER she has contact with a variety of patients of all ages and in all states of health. Her job requires her to triage, prioritize, administer treatments and medications, teach, counsel and console when appropriate. Hatfield completed nursing school with an Associates Degree I earned through Weber State, in conjunction with UAS and did her clinicals and preceptorship at KGH. Prior to coming to work as an RN, she worked with the Ketchikan Volunteer Fire Dept as an EMS provider for approximately 7 years. Hatfield has kept up her certification, and still run calls with them when time allows. She has also worked for Community Connections for 12 years working with persons in our community with developmental disabilities. The employees who nominated Hatfield stated, I wish we could bottle Candy's energy to buzz around here despite long hours and long stretches. She never complains, has a superb knowledge of nursing care and seems right at home with disturbed or ill kids, and injured or ill adults. She is amazing in critical situations with her ability to remain calm. Candy is always ready and willing to do what ever is needed to be done, no matter what is the situation. She always finds time to listen and treats everyone as if their complaint is the most important item of the moment. It is my pleasure to work alongside someone who is so knowledgeable and driven. The award of Employee of the
Month at KGH recognizes those who regularly go above and beyond
what is required, to provide high quality service to patients,
visitors and co-workers.
