Sales Tax
By Dustin Hofeling

This is in response to Pete Ellis' suggestion about a seasonal decrease in sales tax. I don't think this is possible considering many tax exempt people won't want to give up their status; and I don't want to pay an 8% tax during the winter.

Recently I was in Anchorage and in Fairbanks, and it was wonderful not paying any sales tax. It was almost liberating. The prices on the shelves are what I paid, not a penny more.

I say, cancel the sales tax all together. This will mean decreased revenue for the city and borough. That's their problem. They need to lower their costs anyway. And it will give people a real incentive to buy locally. Let's all ban together and tell our local governments to become smaller and stop robbing us.
