Anchorage, Alaska ­ United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffler announced that on Friday, January 15, 2010, Ramon L. Hueso, of Seattle, Washington, was sentenced to serve 20 years in federal prison for his participation in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Ketchikan, Alaska.

Assistant United States Attorney Aunnie Steward successfully tried the case against Hueso, age 27, before Chief United States District Court Judge Ralph R. Beistline.

According to Special Assistant United States Attorney Christine Thoreson, who handled the sentencing phase, the evidence presented at trial established that Hueso supplied methamphetamine to his accomplices for a period of at least two years - from sometime in 2007, to May 2008. Hueso, together with his accomplices, conspired to send approximately 22 ounces of methamphetamine to Ketchikan by courier to be sold on the streets of Ketchikan. The value of the methamphetamine in Ketchikan was approximately $56,000.

Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Beistline pointed out that prior encounters with the law failed to get Hueso's attention. In addition, Hueso earned this sentence based upon the choices he made in his life.

The Ketchikan Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration at SEATAC conducted the investigation that led to the prosecution of Hueso.
