January 07, 2014
“After a nationwide search and interviewing a number of very qualified candidates, we’re pleased to find that we already have the best leader for PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center at the helm,” states Nancy Steiger, CEO and chief mission officer of PeaceHealth Northwest Network, of which Ketchikan Medical Center is part. “Tonjes brings not only his financial and business experience, but also a long history of success at PeaceHealth Ketchikan. His background, knowledge, and already existing relationships within the community ensure a stable transition so we can move forward into the future without missing a beat.” Tonjes, a certified public accountant with a Master of Business Administration degree, brings 23 years of service at PeaceHealth to this new position and has a breadth of knowledge and connections with the communities PeaceHealth serves. While interim CAO, Tonjes worked with local and state leaders to secure funding for the $62 million “Your Health—Your Future” medical center expansion project, which will add 72,000 square feet of surgery and clinical space onto the existing facility. In addition to his new role as CAO, Tonjes will continue serving in the key leadership role for finance at PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center. “I am truly honored to be selected for the CAO role and am excited to continue to work with all of our caregivers in providing the best possible care for our community,” commented Tonjes. “Our challenges are many, but I am confident we can address these challenges with our patients’ needs at the heart of the decision-making process.”
