Senate Majority Responds to Governor’s State of the State Address

(SitNews) Juneau, Alaska - Members of the Alaska State Senate Majority released the following statements tonight in response to Governor Sean Parnell’s State of the State address:
“This is an exciting time to be an Alaskan,” said Chair of Senate Resources Cathy Giessel (R-Anchorage Hillside/Turnagain Arm/North Kenai). “The recent developments have moved us that much closer to realizing a large scale natural gas project that would deliver gas to Alaskans and markets beyond. Being an equity partner means that we are part owner, part investor and part beneficiary of the profits. I look forward to diving into the Heads of Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding documents in the Senate Resources Committee next week in preparation for receiving the Governor’s legislation.”
“This is the governor’s chance to tell us what he wants and now we have 90 days to tell him what we want,” said co-chair of Senate Finance Pete Kelly (R-Fairbanks). “Fortunately, we agree on a lot of issues: smaller government, lower energy costs, and better education for our kids. It should be a good session.”
“The people of my district, and all of Alaska, will benefit from the investment and jobs that will come from bringing Alaska North Slope natural gas to market,” said Senate Majority Leader John Coghill (R-North Pole). “I look forward to working on this issue that enables economic growth and creates private sector jobs.”
“The Governor was right on point tonight with his emphasis on energy security. He and the Senate Majority share the goal of bringing affordable energy to all Alaskans,” said Chair of Senate Rules Lesil McGuire (R-Anchorage). “It’s heartening to me that we now have all of the parties aligned to finally build a gas pipeline in Alaska. The return from this single important initiative ensures Alaskans the long-term energy security needed to maintain our quality of life, for us and our children, and bring good, family-wage jobs to Alaskans.”
