State Legislative Seat By Peter Bolling January 20, 2014
Dan Ortiz, a resident of Southeast Alaska for almost 50 years, is running for the District 36 House seat. I can think of no better person to represent the diverse communities of Southern Southeast Alaska. Dan has lived in Ketchikan and Hydaburg and his work has brought him often to Metlakatla and Wrangell. Like most of us who grew up in Southeast, Dan understands the complex economy of our region. He has worked in shipping, fishing, timber, retail, construction, education, and tourism. He s pulled shifts at the Pulp Mill, pulled crab pots, pulled hand troll lines, and pulled double duty as a teacher and coach. He is no stranger to hard work and he s just the man to put his shoulder to the wheel in the Alaska House of Representatives. He s got grit, and by way of analogy, he s like a pair of xtra tuffs, when they were made in the U.S. Dan Ortiz is exactly the kind of person that District 36 needs. As a life-long Republican and a person who has grown weary of partisanship replacing common sense, I am fully supportive of Dan. He s a fighter who won t substitute principle with ideology. He s an independent individual who listens well and then acts with intention. He s an honest, well-informed, broadly respected, community and business-minded Alaskan. Dan Ortiz knows the region. He s committed to it. It s in his blood. The communities of Hydaburg, Ketchikan, Metlakatla and Wrangell couldn t ask for a better son of Southeast to represent them in the legislature. Give Dan a call. Find out for yourself what many of us already know about him. Find out why we trust him. You ll be persuaded.
