(SitNews) Anchorage, Alaska –  The Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011.  Since 1986, the Alaska SBDC has provided in-depth information and technical assistance to pre-venture, startup, and existing businesses to promote growth, expansion, job creation, innovation, and increased productivity.  The Alaska SBDC is a cooperative venture of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA).

The Alaska SBDC offers free, one-to-one business counseling to address a variety of small business needs: business plan development to include market research, feasibility studies and use of a national clearinghouse that offers comprehensive research to aid in greater decision making; identification of financing and preparation of financial packages; basic tax information; bookkeeping and accounting training; marketing and advertising; management; and personnel assistance.  To help us meet our objectives we collaborate throughout the state with other federal, state, and local governments, as well as private organizations.

The Alaska SBDC has eight brick and mortar centers, located in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Bethel, Juneau, Ketchikan, Soldotna, Homer, and Wasilla.  Throughout 2011, these centers will hold celebrations through Open Houses, potlucks, receptions, and various collaborative outreach events with their partners.

With its partner programs, the Alaska SBDC expands to a network of services that includes:

  • Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), assisting businesses in government contracting;
  • Technology Research and Development Center (TREND) program, provides help with SBIR/STTR grant applications, patents, and trademarks;
  • Buy Alaska - A proponent for local shopping, offering a free web presence and a variety of internet marketing tools.
  • Rural Outreach Program for Entrepreneurs (ROPE) offering small business development services to rural and remote areas.
