If the Marine Highway System goes ahead with its plans to mothball
the Taku, then the movement of the ferry system headquarters
to Ketchikan will be a wash jobwise for the community because
we would likely lose a similar number of ferry workers. Ketchikan
can't afford more to lose 40 more well-paying year round jobs.
That makes it even more essential to relocate the administrative
jobs here. After all, bureaucrats - and their families - purchase
homes, pay taxes, buy groceries and help support year-round activities,
too.
