Re: It's that time again....

Having this forum as a means of spirited and constructive debated
and voicing of opinions, issues and potential solutions is a
wonderful gift to the community from the hosts. Thank you.
However, since human beings first learned to communicate, I would
be willing to bet that there have always been a few people that
enjoyed pointing a finger, complaining about how bad things are,
yet seem to lack the ability to offer any sort of solution. Perhaps
these people don't even see a real issue, but are so starved
for attention that they speak or write just to get other people
to respond to them. A twisted sort of group hug thing.
Personally, I don't think there are many people out there who
relish the sight of a boarded up storefront, but at least these
businesses are open part of the year. There are certainly plenty
of towns in America that have businesses all up and down Main
street that are boarded up year round and simply sit vacant.
Ketchikan has historically had seasonal economy. Fishing, Mining,
Timber, and when one industry died off, or went away, another
stepped in. Thus it is today.
For the things we don't like in this community, we have options
to change them. Vote, run for office, become a "City Father."
The key to that is involvement. If all you can do is complain...
Shut up already! If you are offering constructive comments,
even constructive criticisms, people will listen.
So put up or shut up.. I agree, there are boats and planes out
of here every day that will take you to your own private Utopia.
Quit your bellyachin' and do something or say something constructive.
Besides, it is said that prostitution is the world's oldest profession.
It may or may not be right, but if there wasn't a market for
it, it would have been extinct years ago. Like the seasonal,
foreign owned jewelry stores, it provides a service for those
that patronize it.
