Pet Food

Dear Sitnews,
With rat poison laced pet food in the news these days, I am sure
many of you are wondering what to feed your pet. My beloved shelter
cats Isabella and Max have been eating a natural brand of cat
food their entire lives called "Pet Guard" which is
made in small batches using only Coleman Natural Beef and other
fresh, natural ingredients. Pet Guard comes in both moist and
crunchy varieties for cats and dogs. Yes, it costs more, but
I am resting easy these days knowing that my cats are eating
the safest and best food available, and I generally think they
need less food each day because it is of such good quality and
full of nutrition. Well, Max would disagree, as he is always
ready for a meal! Visitors to our home always exclaim over our
cats thick, soft, shiny fur and bright eyes. They are the picture
of health.
Another good line of pet food is put out by Newman's Own Organics-
a member of the Paul Newman family of products in which all profits
go to charity. A quick google search for natural pet food showed
several other brands as well.
Where do you find these foods in Ketchikan? We order ours by
the case and the bag through the Ketchikan Food Club, which meets
every eight weeks at the library (catalogs and order forms in
the library vertical file), and through RainCountry Nutrition.
The cost is about the same from either source. I have also seen
"Pet Guard" at A and P Grocery. They have made a real
effort to have more natural products on their shelves this past
year and that's a good place to start for a pet food that is
not on the tainted list.
Sincerely,
Charlotte Glover
