CITY COUNCIL WHO ARE YOU REPRESENTING?
By Charles Edwardson

Monday PM
OK I tried, I have tried to not put my two cents in but I cannot
help it with headlines like "CITY COUNCIL NIXES TAXI PROPOSAL"
WHAT ?? SERIOUSLY??
WHY NOT JUST SAY CITY COUNCIL IS ANTI BUSINESS ESPECIALLY IF
YOU ARE A HARD WORKING LOCAL KETCHIKAN RESIDENT JUST TRYING TO
MAKE ENDS MEET.
BUT HEY LET'S LET SOME LOW SPEED PART TIME RESIDENT TOURIST
INDUSTRY ENTERPRISE DRIVE AROUND IN GOLF CARTS AND PLUG UP THE
STREETS AT TEN MILES AN HOUR, OR A BUNCH OF HORSE DRAWN TROLLEYS
THAT HAVE NO MORE HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE THAN JEWELRY STORES HAVE
IN THIS SLEEPY LITTLE TOWN
COME ON GUYS (COUNCIL) WHO ARE YOU TO ACCESS THE NEEDS OF
A PRIVATE BUSINESS TO DO ANYTHING THEY WANT, AND MR City MAYOR
THIS IS THE SMARTEST MOVE YOU HAVE MADE IN AWHILE TO REMAIN
NEUTRAL IN THIS AS WELL.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE MOST INEPT, ANTI BUSINESS IRRESPONSIBLE
DECISION THIS COUNCIL HAS MADE IN QUITE SOME TIME. IT RIVALS
SPENDING 25 GRAND OF PUBLIC FUNDS TO SUPPORT AN AD CAMPAIGN THAT
IS BY NO MEANS SUPPORTED BY THE WHOLE PEOPLE -- RE: PUBLIC OF
KETCHIKAN -- TO SELL THE PHONE DEPARTMENT.
I agree with Mr Harpold 100 percent by the way with his last
letter about the phone department. When I ran for city council
last year I asked for support or even an opinion from phone
guys and got nothing but a whimper (Not a public WHIMPER BY
THE WAY in case some of their supervisors might over hear).
So I wont even touch that one.
BUT COME ON COUNCIL IF SOMEONE WANTS TO INVEST TO ENHANCE THEIR
BUSINESS (STEP ASIDE) AND LET THOSE OF US WHO BELIEVE IN
HARD WORK DOING BETTER THAN THE OTHER GUY TO GET AHEAD DO
OUR THING, IF THE COMPETITION DOES NOT WHAT TO INVEST SO BE
IT. Ketchikan is one of the most anti business arenas I have
ever observed, with the city and borough putting every imaginable
obstacle in front of true business people, it's a wonder we even
have people who are willing to try.
HATS OFF TO YOU YELLOW TAXI. GOOD LUCK IN TRYING TO DO WHAT'S
BEST FOR YOU -- APPARENTLY THIS CITY COUNCIL KNOWS ABOUT THE
TAXI CAB BUSINESS AS WELL AS PHONE COMPANIES,
