(SitNews) - The Senate Resources Committee announced today they will hold a special hearing Wednesday morning to highlight low-cost ways Alaskans can save energy and money. The hearing will be chaired by Senator Bill Wielechowski, D-Anchorage, co-chair of the committee.

The public is invited to submit questions for energy experts from the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation on energy-saving strategies. Questions can be sent to Senator Bill Wielechowski and should be received by 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.

"I urge people to tune in to Gavel to Gavel, or if you're in Juneau, to come to the Capitol Wednesday morning to get some valuable information about how to reduce home energy costs," said Senator Wielechowski. "All over Alaska, people are struggling with extremely high energy costs, and at this meeting we hope to provide them with some good ideas to help save money."

"Simple techniques can pay big dividends when it comes to energy efficiency," added Senator Lesil McGuire, R-Anchorage, co-chair of the Resources Committee. "Investing in educating Alaskans about how to use energy more efficiently is a priority in our omnibus energy plan. The information presented on Wednesday will provide an introduction to the broader strategy we hope to pass this session."

The purpose of the hearing is to show Alaskans simple, low-cost methods to reduce energy costs at home and at work. Presenting these strategies to the committee will be Cary Bolling from the Energy Program at the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation.

The hearing is open to the public, and begins at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 3rd, in the Butrovich Room (205) of the Alaska State Capitol. It is expected to be broadcast live on the legislative television channel, Gavel to Gavel.

The State Senate Resources Committee will host the special hearing on Wednesday, March 3, at 10:00 am on low-cost ways Alaskans can reduce their energy costs. Anyone who wants to pose a question for the experts on how to cut home energy costs can send an e-mail by 9:00 am Wednesday to Senator.Bill.Wielechowski@legis.state.ak.us
