Lisa Torres plays the alto saxophone in band and jazz band, and sings with the choir. Lisa is also interested in learning new instruments as well as music theory and improvisation. She hopes that music will always be an important part of her life. Austin Kalkins is very interested in studying composition. In addition to singing with the choir, he plays tuba, French horn, baritone and piano. He is a very versatile musician who hopes to find a career in a music related field. Andrew Sullivan plays flute and tenor saxophone. Andrew is particularly interested in jazz and continuing to improve on the tenor saxophone especially when soloing. He hopes to continue his music education in college. The Sam Pitcher Music Scholarship Fund was started following Sam's death in 2003 at age 16. Sam's passion was music. Scholarships are for Ketchikan students in grades 7 - 12 to attend summer music programs like the ones Sam enjoyed. Two $500 scholarships were first awarded in 2004. 28 scholarships have now been awarded. The primary fundraiser for the scholarships is the Sam Pitcher Memorial Concert which usually takes place in December. Tax deductible donations can be made to the fund at any time in care of The Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Association, 330 Main Street, Ketchikan, AK 99901. The Sam Pitcher Memorial Scholarship Fund is a fiscally sponsored project of the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council (KAAHC). Publish A Letter in SitNews Read Letters/Opinions
