Open Letter: Closing Cocktail Lounges on AMHSBy Donald Bodda March 17, 2015
Dear Governor Walker. This letter is in reference to the Alaska Marine Hiway System closing the adult’s lounges and bars. We as Alaskans that ride and depend on the service spent our time visiting old friends and making new acquaints in the cocktail lounges and we are very disappointed in the decision to close these lounges. I have some P&Ls for the bars and they all show a very good profit. Not only do we lose the revenue from the bars, several citizens lose jobs. I have a friend that was a bartender and based his future financial life on the wages he was making. Now he lost that wage and was demoted to the very lowest wage scale in the Stewart's dept. due to no fault of his. He is a very good employ and decade his life to AMHS. I would very much like you to visit this decision and honor the wishes of us Alaskans and reopen these lounges (Bars). I am a lifelong Alaskan and I remember the ferry system starting in 1963-64 and also worked on them in the capacity of Deck Officer for several years. I believe if Governor Bill Egan could see what his legacy has turned into he would be very displeased and disgraced. Thank you for visiting this problem. Captain Donald Bodda,"Retired"
