Jean M. Bailey, IIMC President, said, " I am honored to welcome Ms. Edwards as a member in the Master Municipal Clerk Academy. She is dedicated to municipal service and an inspiration to all members of our profession." According to information provided by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), the Academy is the professional body of municipal clerks who have continued their level of educational achievement beyond the attainment of the prestigious Certified Municipal Clerk Award. In order to become a member of the Academy a person must first attain the IIMC Certification of Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC), attend a minimum of 36 hours of graduate courses at an IIMC recognized municipal clerks academy or complete similar educational programs relating to the responsibilities of the municipal clerk's office. Specific professional participation must be achieved, such as leadership in national and state association, attendance at seminars and conferences, and professional writings and accomplishments. To date, approximately 15% of 10,300 members of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks have qualified for the Master Municipal Clerk Academy status. Edwards has been employed with the Ketchikan Gateway Borough since March 1997 and currently serves in the position of Borough Clerk. Previous municipal service includes serving as City Clerk with the City of Thorne Bay for eight years. She completed an IIMC approved Certification Program in August of 1997 and received her Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation. Continuing her professional education, Edwards has completed IIMC approved Academy programs and has also completed other course, seminars and conferences relating to local government. Active in professional affiliations, Edwards is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and served as Treasurer and Finance Committee Member with the Alaska Association of Municipal Clerks. The IIMC was founded in 1947
and has over 10,000 members throughout the United States, Canada
and 15 other countries.
