Kings Win 3 of 4-game weekend series April 20, 2004
Game one Friday featured two Southeast 17 year olds who pitched 9 innings against each other last July in the Southeast Senior League championship game - Kayhi's Casey Bass vs Sitka's Matt Way - with Ketchikan coming out on top and winning the Southeast crown. Friday, Bass and Way pitched like last season never ended with Bass giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 12 Sitka hitters and Sitka's Matt Way giving up 1 run on 7 hits and striking out 11 Kayhi hitters in a great pitchers' duel. The final score: Sitka 3, Ketchikan 1. Game two at 6 pm saw Kayhi's Thomas Montgomery hold Sitka to 3 runs on 4 hits, striking out 9, walking 6 and leaving 7 Sitka runners on base. Sitka's pitcher, Jason Koelling gave up 5 runs on 5 hits, striking out 3 with 5 base on balls and leaving 8 Ketchikan runners on base. Both teams had several other chances to score but were unable to. The final score: Ketchikan 5, Sitka 3. Game three at 12 pm Saturday, April 17th proved to be a back and forth affair in a game lasting 10 innings. With Ketchikan down by two runs that Sitka had scored in the top of the 10th inning, Sitka's pitcher E.B. Crow got Altman out on a come backer to the mound. Andrew Kolanko hit a double off the left field fence, Ketchikan's number 9 hitter struck out giving Sitka 2 outs and Ketchikan down by two runs. Sitka's E.B. Crow walked Ben Voetberg and Corey Howe to load the bases with 2 outs. Ketchikan's number 3 hitter, Casey Bass hit Crow's third pitch to the left field fence. As Corey Howe came to home plate running from 1st base so did Sitka's relay from the fence. Howe slide under the tag for the win. Final score: Ketchikan 12, Sitka 11 in 10 innings. During game four at 4 pm Saturday, Ketchikan hitters jumped on Sitka's pitchers for a 9 to 3 win. Ketchikan had 9 runs on 10 hits, Sitka pitchers struck 5 and Ketchikan left 8 on base. Sitka Wolves had 3 runs on 6 hits. Ketchikan pitchers struck out 8 Sitka Wolves and Sitka left 8 runners on base. Final score: Ketchikan 9, Sitka 3. The next series will be Juneau in Ketchikan on April 29th, 30th and May 1st. Times to be announced.
