Coast Guard Air Station Sitka rescuers responded to a logging
accident Monday near Kogish Mountain, about 60 miles northwest
of Ketchikan, Alaska. Gary Hayes, a 28 year old male, suffered
serious injuries sustained from a log that crushed the left side
of his body.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew
from Sitka flew to the accident site and conducted a difficult,
high hoist in mountainous terrain to lift the victim from the
side of the mountain. They transported Hayes to a Ketchikan hospital
