RE: New America

Just thought I would correct you on "strawberries at $50 a pound" As you already know illegals do pick most of the crops on the west coast and are paid about $350 a week for apples, berries etc. That works out to about 6% of the cost of produce. If the greedy corporate farmer was forced to pay $700 a week to have his apples picked the cost of those apples would go up by 6% not 100%. Weather and fuel cost play a much larger role in produce cost. And another thing there has been a few immigration raids in the Midwest at meat packing plants and many of these plants have had no problem finding legal workers or finding the extra $5 an hour to pay the new legal workers.

Mr. Rettke, there are a lot of people in this country that have no problem paying people dirt wages, break every labor law on the books, cheat, steal then pay off all the political hacks from city hall to the halls of Congress just to keep the status quo alive and well. Just look at the race for the White House. Good guys like Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter want to change things and have raised little money. On the other hand ,John McCain and Hillery Clinton have raised millions but don't want to rock the boat.
