DOT&PF Reminds Motorists to Remove Studded Tires
April 30, 2011
Due to predicted adverse weather, an extension was issued early this month by the Department of Public Safety extending the deadline for motorists south of 60 degree latitude, creating a universal statewide deadline. “Driver safety is always the highest priority,” said DOT&PF Commissioner Marc Luiken. “However, driving with studded tires after the snow is gone contributes to highway deterioration. Their use must be strictly enforced to the legal season.” Driving with studded tires after the deadline could incur a correctable citation from Alaska State Troopers, containing a $50 fine for each tire. Various municipalities across the state may have a stricter fine for their citations.
