Patriotic Pride performanceBy Judith Green April 20, 2015 April 11th was the performance by our Ketchikan Community Chorus with Orchestral Ensemble - "Patriotic Pride". Wonderful performance!! by our neighbors who enjoy singing and sharing their talent and 'hard work' under the direction of Stephen Kinney. Mr Kinney along with the Board of Directors strives to give not only our community his enjoyment of vocal music, but he also invites other SE community musicians to participate. Often, as this past weekend, musicians from the Seattle area accept the invitation to join the KCC in performances. For this performance week end the Orchestral Ensemble featured musicians from our local community as well Juneau, Haines, Wrangell, and Thorne Bay; and Sam Williams a returning violist from the Seattle Orchestra and Klassikan Ensemble. Before intermission, a violin and viola duo by Mozart, featuring Juneau violinist, Steve Tada and Seattle violist, Sam Williams was enjoyed not only by the audience, but it was evident the 2 playing were likewise enjoying. The 2nd half of the program: "music for the Inauguration of a President <in our own country> giving honor to a society rooted in laws, inalienable rights and expressed in freedom" featured both some familiar and unfamiliar American tunes. Performance by our local Barbershop quartet, and pieces by the chorus accompanied by pianist Angela Garton. The chorus and piano were joined by the orchestra for the familiar "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and an arrangement of our National Anthem. This entire performance was a musical treat! I'm glad I did not miss it. Thank you to all who participated! Judith Green
