Regardless of What You Heard; Ketchikan Essential Services In TactCitizens Urged to Rely on Factual Sources For Information
April 05, 2020
According to the EOC, unfortunately, there have been rumors that our local grocery stores and essential businesses will be shut down. There is inaccurate and false information being spread through social media, texts, and even printed flyers about a nationwide quarantine that would be enforced by the National Guard. The Ketchikan Emergency Operations Center stated this is not true. While it is true that the Alaska National Guard is prepared to assist our community at such a time as our Emergency Operations Center (EOC) requests help through our State EOC, the Ketchikan Emergency Operations Center has not made a request for assistance. The National Guard is available for such a time to meet the needs of the community if other state resources are unavailable and/or private industry is unable to meet community requests. The Ketchikan Emergency Operations Center (EOC) stressed, "It is very important that our citizens go to factual sources to receive information on COVID-19 and our community, state, and national response to the pandemic." There have been no new cases in Ketchikan since April 1, the count remains at 14. As of today, there have been 157 tests administered in Ketchikan. Of those 14 tested positive and 94 tested negative for COVID-19. There are 49 test determinations pending. Of the 14 positive cases in Ketchikan, 2 are travel-related, 1 is non-travel related, and 11 are close contact.
