Built Visits Ketchikan

Ketchikan, AK - The Spirit Dancer, a 42-foot Canot du Maitre
(Montreal Canoe), arrived in Ketchikan late Monday morning with
a crew of eleven Canadian paddlers. According to the coordinators
of the trip Kris Cooper and Bob Saunders, the all-wood Spirit
Dancer is the largest Montreal canoe ever built.

The Spirit Dancer's eleven member crew began their 3 1/2 month
paddling adventure in Vancouver. The group is headed north to
Glacier Bay with many planned sightseeing stops enroute - including
Ketchikan. Ports of call prior to reaching Ketchikan included
Prince Rupert, B.C. and Metlakatla. The group of eleven left
Prince Rupert on May 11th with a one night stay in Metlakatla
before arriving in Ketchikan on Monday the 17th.
The Spirit Dancer docked for
a few hours Monday at Thomas Basin where the group was cleared
by U.S. Immigrations. While in Ketchikan, the crew planned to
visit a few shops and visits one of the fine local restaurants.
Plans were to camp out overnight north of Ketchikan and to continue
on northward Tuesday.
Kris Cooper, one of the coordinators
of the trip, said the Spirit Dancer and crew plan to be in Petersburg
in approximately one week. As they travel, the group will be
camping out along the way and are well stocked with approximately
two tons of supplies aboard the Spirit Dancer.
Many adventures await the crew
prior to their return to Vancouver, B.C. which is expected in
mid-August.
