The Coast Guard received a call at 6 p.m. from an emergency medical technician who requested a medevac of a 25-year-old man knocked unconscious after a falling log struck him in the back of the head. Brian Carter (hometown unavailable) complained of tingling in the hands and feet, headache, severe neck pain and showed signs of a possible concussion. Air Station Sitka dispatched a helicopter crew to the scene. The man reportedly walked out of the woods with help from two other loggers after the incident. They escorted him to the home of the EMT in Coffman Cove. The Coast Guard rescuers took
the man to Sitka for treatment at Sitka Community Hospital in
