Ketchikan, Alaska - An orange crowned warbler hangs upside down
to get a drink of sweet nectar from a salmonberry flower.
Warblers are active little songsters whose plumages include dramatic
combinations of blues, yellows, chestnut, orange, gray, and rich
greens. Songs vary from sweet, melodic warbles to emphatic, buzzy
trills. Their short, thin bills and relatively short wings make
them efficient at catching insects, their primary food. Warblers
occur in virtually all habitats throughout North America, from
dry shrubby fields to wet, bottomland forests.
