Dismissal Of The Superintendent
By Jerilyn Lester
May 13, 2007

Mr. Harpold I totally agree with you. If the four school board
members had a legitimate beef with the Superintendent then they
should have fired him for cause but the way they did it seems
like they only had personal issues with Mr. Martin. Having worked
for him I can understand that but never anything to fire him
over. Also they didn't take into consideration the amount of
money it would take or that the public actually watches what
they do. By not giving us any explanations they just caused a
bigger stink. A personal vendetta is no reason to fire a person
and they all owe us, the public, an explanation or get ready
to be recalled.
My biggest problem with the
process is the fact that they waited until Mr. Martin was out
of town making a bid for money for the district they are supposed
to be overseeing to stab him in the back. Ketchikan School Board
Members Choc Shafer and Karen Eakes as well as Lieben and Jackson
need to come clean with the public and tell us what the real
reason for the dismissal was. They owe the public and Mr. Martin
that much.
