According to a news release, witnesses and physical evidence on the scene indicated the driver of the Ford attempted to pass a line of three vehicles and struck the Toyota, whose driver was making a left turn from Stedman. Both vehicles came to rest on the side of the road after striking and destroying a fire hydrant. The driver of the Toyota, a 73-year-old male, was transported to Ketchikan General Hospital in very serious condition. He was later transported to Seattle for further emergency treatment. The driver of the Ford, a 25 year-old-male, was not seriously injured. Names of the drivers were not released by the Ketchikan Police Department. Charges in the case are pending the result of a blood alcohol test of the driver of the Ford. Note:
