"We have been looking for additional ways to service our current customers in the lodge business," Thomas said. "The departure of the Budget fleet last fall opened up an opportunity for us to diversify our business, meet the current needs of our fishing clients, and serve the greater visitor population as well." While excited about the new opportunities this business venture will provide, there will be a learning curve involved in operating the new business. "Many of the customer service aspects of our current businesses will transfer over nicely to the car rental operation but we certainly know there will be some growing pains as we learn the ins and outs of the daily operation of the car rental business," Thomas said. The company plans to gauge customer interest in other vehicle types and sizes before expanding beyond its current mid-size fleet. First City Car Rentals will operate year-round. Rates, information, and specials can all be found on the company website. First City Car Rental will compliment the family's resort business and will fill some of the market demand left by departing Budget fleet. Also providing services in Ketchikan is Alaska Car Rental, a local family owned business. Alaska Car Rental has been providing car rental needs in Ketchikan since 1979 and is open 7-days a week with two Ketchikan locations (West End & Airport). Services are also provided by its website.
