When I was on the School Board, the teachers decided to take an unscheduled day off in protest over negotiations. My daughter was in high school. When she returned to school, one of her teachers told the class that they had her mother to thank for the day off. I'm not sure what effect the teacher thought this would have on her or the class. My daughter had no idea what he was talking about because, like most adults, I didn't discuss School Board business with her unless she asked, and I always tried to give both sides of the question. In any event, she felt pretty good that her mom was responsible for the day off and there were high fives all around.
