Klein Announces Candidacy For Alaska House - District 36
May 06, 2014
When asked why now, Klein said “Many people have encouraged me to run for office. As a small business owner who recently worked in Juneau at the legislature, it is clear that teamwork, willingness to negotiate, persistence, and above all tireless work is needed to be effective. Having gotten “on the ground” experience in Juneau is huge. I learned the political processes and paid close attention to the players. Quoting a news release announcing her candidacy, Klein said, "I love Southeast Alaska and want to be sure the policies enacted in Juneau are supportive of business and a sustainable, resource-based economy for us and for our children. I believe we are in a period of very positive and exciting times and with the right representation in Juneau we can continue growing our SE economy. We need someone who will be in it for the long haul due to our limited representation in Southeast. Most importantly an encouraging business environment in Alaska needs to be the number one priority to keep positive growth happening for us." Klein believes her diverse background and recent legislative experience makes her an ideal candidate. Klein is a lifelong Alaskan. She is married to Loren Enright and the proud mother of two girls attending the University of Alaska. Klein is a successful small business owner who has worked in private and commercial business enterprises her entire life, starting with her first job selling rhubarb and vegetables at the age of 10. District 36 includes Ketchikan, Wrangell, Metlakatla, Saxman, Hydaburg, Hyder & Loring. Patti Mackey, president and CEO of the Ketchikan Visitors Bureau announced in late April that she had filed to run as a Republican candidate for the Alaska State House District 36. Also, long-time Ketchikan teacher Dan Ortiz announced in October of 2013 that he had filed to run for the House District 36 as an Independent. House District 36 seat has been held by Wrangell Republican Peggy Wilson. Wilson, who served 14 years in the Alaska State House, announced on the House floor on April 25th that she would be retiring. Wilson did not respond to an inquiry from SitNews regarding her retirement announcement.
