Legalize Marijuana By Anthony M. Johnson May 20, 2014
Statistically, one out of every two teens will try this drug at least once. Legal or not! While we can argue back and forth about how similar it is to Alcohol and Tobacco, it is. And we can likely all agree it far different than more dangerous drugs like Heroin and Meth, it is. One point that is my deciding factor; No one deserves to go to jail over Marijuana! Yes, statistically, one of my two children will try it. With our current laws, one of my two children may get arrested for it. Possibly even get a felony for smoking a stupid plant. Most likely my child will decide pot is not for them and move on with their life, chalking it up for a dumb young decision. Most do. What my child doesn’t deserve is to be forced to list this felony or drug charge on every job application for the rest of their lives. People make stupid mistakes, especially when they are young. Ms. Abbott, my sympathy and thoughts are with you and your battle with addiction. Based on your previous letters, you had a battle with far more addictive drugs than Marijuana. But I must ask, are YOU really going to place your vote toward the further prosecution and incarceration of our children? Do you support sending our children to jail and ruining their future employment prospects because they made a bad choice when they were young? Weren’t you young once? Thank You Very Much.
