No smoking in restaurants - yes!! By Cherry Rice May 20, 2014
I read two letters in Sitnews; one saying he was a long time republican conservative who was glad the smoking ban was happening especially in restaurants and other businesses. I agree except I'm not sure what your political affiliation has to do with smoking in public places. The other letter was from an angry smoker who says he feels unwelcome in restaurants except Cape Fox, because they won't let him smoke. He said it was a boon for non smokers that several restaurants have gone non smoking. He also said while maybe unpleasant for non-smokers, it is LEGAL. SO WHAT?!! I rejoice at being able to take a breath of air when dining at places that I have not gone to for years, because I would have to wash my hair after leaving because it STINKS of smoke. It may be legal, but I also will not, and have not patronized businesses (especially restaurants!) that allow smoking. So, to those diners you can have him or me. I leave a bigger tip because I don't have to buy cigarettes! It's not going away. I'll never run into him at a restaurant because he can't step outside for a smoke, or wait an hour between cigarettes. Like a friend says, "Having a non-smoking area in a restaurant is like having a no urinating area in a swimming pool!" We all breath the same air, we all swim in the same water.
