Endorses Senator Bert Stedman June 02, 2004
District One encompasses the communities of Ketchikan, Meyers Chuck, Coffman Cove, Thorne Bay and Hollis. Senator Stedman was appointed to represent Senate District A in the fall of 2003 following the resignation of Senator Robin Taylor, who accepted a position with the State Department of Transportation. District One Republican Party Chairman Cliff Skillings stated, "We are very pleased with the role Senator Stedman assumed in representing Senate District A during the second half of arguably the most difficult fiscal session the state has faced." Skillings said, "Ketchikan has enjoyed veteran Republican leadership in both the local House and Senate districts for almost a decade. The recent retirement of Representative Bill Williams just solidifies the fact that Southern Southeast can ill afford to be represented in anything other than the Senate Republican majority especially as funding for education and major capital improvement projects becomes more difficult to secure." "Senator Stedman brings financial management experience and knowledge to the position which can only benefit Southern Southeast in state budget matters. He is also a long time resident of this region who understands and appreciates the importance of access to our local environment for both economic and recreational benefit," said District One Republican Party Chairman Cliff Skillings. Chairman Skillings further stated:" We are proud to make this endorsement and provide Senator Stedman's campaign the assistance it requires in the upcoming general election." District One Republicans would also like to remind voters in the area that if you have not yet registered to vote, please do so.
