Ketchikan: Kids ages 3 to 15 years
of age headed down to Ketchikan City Park Saturday morning to
take part in the annual Kids' All American Fishing Derby. In
preparation for the event which is held nationally, the ponds
at City Park were stocked with rainbow trout which were raised
at the Ketchikan Tribal Hatchery operated by the Ketchikan Indian
Community.

In celebration of National Fishing Week, the local two-hour event
- in addition to opportunities for age category fishing - provided
fun activities such as fish printing, casting competition and
lure making. And... free balloons and prizes.
The Kids' All American Fishing
Derby was hosted by the U.S. Forest Service. Other local sponsors
included the Ketchikan Tribal Hatchery, Alaska Department of
Transportation, Ketchikan Indian Community, and Ketchikan Parks
and Recreation. National sponsors included Wal-Mart, Johnson
& Johnson, ConAgra Foods, Berkley, Eagle Claw, Zebco, Dubble
Bubble, Fuji Film, Laker Fishing Tackle, Fishingworld.com, EverStart
Batteries, Nestle, Repel Insect Repellent, DMF Bait Company,
Purell Hand Sanitizer, and Edy's Grand Ice Cream.
