Tentative Agreement Reached with ASEA

Wednesday

Juneau, Alaska - The Murkowski administration announced Tuesday that it has reached a tentative contract with the Alaska State Employees Association (ASEA).

Commissioner of Administration Ray Matiashowski stated that the administration remained optimistic in recent weeks that if it could get the ASEA to return to the bargaining table, an agreement could be reached that would meet the needs of the state and the employees.

Matiashowski would not comment on specific terms of the tentative agreement until the contract is ratified by the bargaining unit employees. He did state that the terms of the agreement were in line with the Governor's economic parameters and agreements reached by the state with other unions. If ratified, the agreement would not become effective until approved by the Legislature next year.

The state's largest employee union, ASEA represents approximately 8,000 state employees in the general government unit.
