The Greater Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce and its Board of Directors have followed with keen interest & concern, the recently accepted initiative petition to add section to the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Code of Ordinances entitled: Land Use Density Limitations (Jewelry Stores).

While the Board of Directors have not yet stated a position or made any formal decision, President Rob Skinner, and Membership Services Chair, Renee Schofield have met with initiative sponsor representatives to discuss and address concerns equal to that of the Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber of Commerce greatly appreciates the sponsors of this initiative and their concern for our community, and furthermore, has committed to working in concert and in positive fashion with initiative sponsors; to address and seek amendable solution to the concerns identified and brought fourth within the initiative.

However, it will not support the initiative with contained present language, nor any form of any initiative that it deems as un-fair, or unconstitutional to free market enterprise.
