Equality in punishments

The following KPD
report excerpt dated 6/27/07 reports offenses nearly the
same as the recently jailed heiress - Paris Hilton. Various media
reports in which legal views of Hilton's case have been discussed
have indicated that Paris's sentence was excessive for the offense.
Per the local report it appears that in like cases of a not famous
person the resulting actions were far less than Paris Hilton's.
In general I think people feel that those with famous names get
off much easier than the average person, it appears Paris is
paying for her actions far more than the average person. Granted
Paris has acted on screen as the spoiled child and perhaps needed
a good punishment to set her straight, but I feel that all people
should be treated as equal and fairness in punishment for all
no matter what your name is or isn't!
At approximately 12:00 a.m.
(name withheld), 19 yo female was arrested for Driving Under
the Influence. Officers contacted (name withheld) after noting
her vehicle speeding. Upon contact, officers noted a moderate
odor of intoxicants emitting from her breath, bloodshot watery
eyes and she was swaying. Dispatch confirmed her drivers license
was revoked and that she had conditions of release. (name withheld)
failed field sobriety tests. (name withheld) was transported
to KCC, where she was booked for the Driving Under the Influence,
Driving While License Revoked, Violation of Conditions of Release
and Possession by Persons Under 21. She was additionally charged
with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Sixth
Degree. She was held on $100.00 bail for the VCOR charge and
set to be released on her own recognizance for the rest.
I have to laugh at myself and this post because - YES, Paris
Hilton's plight has hit Sitnews columns! Another point of view
to read about other than jewelry stores and bridges to nowhere/somewhere,
Alaska!
