(SitNews) Ketchikan, Alaska - CEO and Chief Mission, Officer Patrick J. Branco, announced Friday that Ketchikan General Hospital will change its name to PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center effective June 17.

In 1922 the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace responded to needs of an early Ketchikan for quality medical care. In January 1923 the Little Flower Hospital was born. In partnership with the community of Ketchikan in 1963, the doors of Ketchikan General Hospital were opened. Through the years the hospital and the community together have added and expanded services to include a large medical group, laboratory, expanded pharmacy, and a number of other centers.

“We are much more than a hospital now,” said Branco. “Our new name honors the heritage as a healthcare ministry while underscoring the breadth and depth of service we now provide. Our name has changed, as it needed to, but our Vision – to provide safe, evidence-based, compassionate care; every time, every touch – has not. This PeaceHealth commitment endures, as does our commitment to serve where and how we are needed,” he said.

Branco said use of Ketchikan General Hospital's new name begins Friday, June 17, 2011. Implementation, including updating signs and a variety of materials, will continue through the end of this year. In the interest of good stewardship, we plan to use up the current inventory of branded materials said Branco.

The sign has already been changed outside the entrance and now reads PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center.
