Drug Transaction Leads to Grow Operation

SEACAD located the involved vehicle at at 3:45 pm Thursday at the Alaska Marine Highway Terminal in Ketchikan and contacted the vehicle's occupants. Investigation revealed that a 32 year-old woman and a 29 year-old man, both from Metlakatla, were illegally in possession of 14 grams of marijuana, which they had purchased from a 24 year-old man from Ketchikan. The marijuana was seized and the two individuals were released from the scene. Around 5:00 pm, SEACAD, with the assistance of Alaska State Troopers, went to the last known residence of the 24 year-old man from Ketchikan to conduct further investigation. While the 24 year-old man was not located at the Ketchikan residence, a 46 year-old man from Ketchikan was contacted at the residence and found to be illegally in possession of 34 growing marijuana plants, 17 grams of dried marijuana, and six firearms. A charge of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Sixth Degree is being forwarded to the Ketchikan District Attorney's Office against the two individuals from Metlakatla for review. Three counts of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree and one count of Misconduct Involving a Weapon in the Second Degree will be forwarded to the Ketchikan District Attorney's Office against the 46 year old man for review. The 24 year-old man from Ketchikan was never located but a charge of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree will be forwarded to the Ketchikan District Attorney's Office for reveiew. Names of those being charged were not released.
