Borough Bus System By Rudy McGillvray June 05, 2013
I ride the Ketchikan borough buses, as such I feel I have a small expectation they are running at or close to their scheduled times. Even tho it's Tourist Season, and the numbers of them slow the buses down somewhat, I feel that it is the other vehicular traffic that really slows down the buses. When a bus pulls into a stop, because some one is waiting for it to finally show up, and there are 20 cars behind said bus, every one of them has to pass before the bus can move. Today I witnessed one vehicle that stopped behind the bus and let it into the flow. I want to thank him for his courtesy and remind others, that because you've been slowed down due to pedestrians crossing the street at non-crossings, say along Tongass near or at Pro-Mech Air the bus I happened to be riding took twice as long to get to the next stop closer to schedule than otherwise. Then when the bus was ready to pull back into traffic not one vehicle would let him in. The attitude of the other traffic seemed to be, "I've got mine, let the bus go to hell. I mean why not, those people on the bus aren't going anywhere, whereas I've got to get to my next cup of coffee." Really? How about some driving courtesy, if you see the bus, trying to get back into the traffic flow, take a moment and let him in. It won't take but a second or two from your day and you'll make a whole lot of bus passengers very happy. Thank You, for your kind consideration, Rudy McGillvray About: "I have lived in Ketchikan and Alaska off and on since 1946" Received June 05, 2013 - Published June 05, 2013
