Ketchikan, Alaska - Gayle Nichols, Manager of the Materials Management Department at Ketchikan General Hospital (KGH), has been named Employee of the Month by a committee

of her peers.

Gayle started in the Materials Management (or "Purchasing") department as a buyer in 1997 and worked in that position for three years. When the position became vacant she was promoted to Materials Management Manager.

"I really enjoyed being the buyer for the hospital. It was fun, challenging and rewarding. There isn't anything monotonous about either the buying position or my current role as manager," stated Nichols. "I am fortunate to have an excellent team, which has made my job much easier."
  
Nichols plans, administers and coordinates the programs for purchasing, receiving, storing and distributing materials including capital equipment in a manner that insures the continuous improvement of quality patient care at the lowest possible cost.

The co-worker who nominated her for this award stated, "Gayle has gone the extra mile to not only provide products needed for patient care, but has also taken the time to give me a "tour" of patient care products she provides, and explain to me how to go about getting special order items as needed."

The award of Employee of the Month at KGH recognizes those who regularly go above and beyond what is required, to provide high quality service to patients, visitors and co-workers.
