Airport Ferry Fee
By Diane Chaudhary

It is not inconceivable to me
that some people are not prepared to pay for the airport ferry
when arriving in Ketchikan. It costs almost $30 for my family
to ride the ferry over to the airport. This is for 5 adult tickets
(children over 12 pay full fare) and one child ticket. I know
that I do not always carry $30 in my pocket. Fortunately for
me, the KGB does take local checks. However, the KGB does not
take credit cards or debit cards. It can be a huge inconvenience
for someone to arrive at the airport ferry kiosk with all their
luggage and be told that their credit/debit card is not acceptable.
Then they have to trudge all the way back to the terminal to
find the Automatic Teller machine and hope that it is working.
I would like to add that I
have seen Rich, the Water Taxi owner, give free rides to Kayhi
youth, who upon returning to Ketchikan from a sporting or academic
activity did not have enough money in their pocket to pay for
the ferry. And our Borough has done everything it can to drive
this kind, hard working man out of business......
