North Tongass Talus
By Kathy Andresen

Friday PM
On my daily commute from 10 miles North Tongass, I have been
noticing increased amounts of talus accumulating in various areas
along the highway. One area that I particularly notice, that
is in city limits, is just beyond the rock quarry where the rock
is reddish and the talus is in small pieces. If you look directly
above the talus, you will see larger boulders now outcropping
in a precarious way above the highway. Does this concern anybody
else? I know there have been in the past, unexpected rockfalls
within the city that have had devastating effects. Besides
this letter, I intend on contacting the City of Ketchikan and
the State Department of Transportation for further information.
