KIC RECALL

KIC Members:

The Tribal Council meeting on Monday July 8th was very important and informative. The recall committee was there to address their petition, but did not stay to hear or ask any questions on the matters they are concerned about. I stayed until 11pm to listen to all the department reports.

The constitution changes that were voted on in January have not been approved or adopted, and will probably need to be voted on again before being finalized. I have never heard any objections to the changes in the constitution, only that it has not been approved by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and was lacking certain requirements.

The recall petition talks about abuse of power, in that the council appointed the president as temporary General Manager to conduct business due to the prior interim GM resigning. During this time some pressing decisions had to be made including the termination of an employee. That action was not ABUSE of power if there was cause to terminate. The grievance process gives employees the opportunity to defend and prove themselves, and is the time that KIC has to PROVE they have cause to terminate. The KIC Council cannot discuss any matters regarding the termination of an employee, and I don't expect someone that is going to challenge their termination would admit to any wrong doing.

So how does this recall committee even know what the reason for termination was? If this recall committee fails to prove allegation of abuse, they should have to pay the bills for any consulting on the matters surrounding the petition. This recall has to be costing money. BIG money!!!

The good news is KIC council is on the right track to ensure that we have both short term and long term plans to success. I am happy to hear the measures the new interim General Manager is working on in order to make KIC operations most beneficial to us members.

The next monthly meeting is August 12, 2013.
