Port Berth Expansion Project
By John Hansen

August 13, 2005
Saturday

On Tuesday, August 16th residents will vote on the Ketchikan Port Berth Expansion Bond Initiative. The North West CruiseShip Association wants you to know that we support this measure.

For a number of years, the cruise industry has worked in partnership with local officials, private sector representatives and residents to develop a waterfront plan that enhances the community and provides better facilities for residents and visitors alike.

Finding a workable plan has not been an easy task. Over the years, more than 30 alternatives have been given serious consideration. While there were pros and cons for each proposal, we believe that viable concept plans have been achieved.

We also realize that there is more to be done in order to complete development and address future issues. However, with a strong cooperative partnership between the community and the industry we can effectively meet these challenges and develop a win-win situation for all.

To the citizens of Ketchikan we would like to say thank you for the strong partnership we have developed and the warm welcome that you extend to visitors.

We offer our support of the city's bond measure and urge you to support it as well.
