Last week to see the 2007 Blueberry Juried Art Show! If
you haven't had the chance to check this year's exhibit out it
is definitely worth coming down for. Local and non-local, established
and newly emerging artists are being showcased at the Mainstay
Gallery, 716 Totem Way. The Juried Art Show is finished this
Friday, August 31st at 5pm.
KVB Summer contest to bring visiting groups to Ketchikan.
Submit your ideas of potential groups to bring to Ketchikan
through August 31st, and if we succeed in booking your
idea, you will be entered to win a pair of season tickets to
the Arts Council's 2007-2008 Torch Nights Performing Arts Series.

Mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Juneau DanceFest!!!
This event will take place over Labor Day Weekend (August
31st through September 3rd). The festival includes four days
of dance classes, dance performances, and live music. The guest
dance band, Havana NRG, is an 8-piece Cuban band based out of
Texas. Guest instructors from Miami, Portland, Anchorage and
Fairbanks will teach a variety of cultural dances. Learn to swing,
salsa, waltz, cha cha, tango, samba, belly dance and MORE! Check

2007-2008 Torch Nights Performing Arts Series Season Tickets
on Sale Now!! Subscribe to the full season and you can save up
to 35% (Arts Council Members save the most!). This year's events
include: Huun Huur Tu (throat singers from Tuva), Bearfoot (Anchorage-based
bluegrass and acoustic music), Opposites Attract: 22nd Annual
Wearable Art Show, Turtle Island String Quartet (string jazz
quartet), John Gorka & Susan Werner (contemporary American
folk), Marionetas de la Esquina (Mexican puppet company), and
The 11th Annual Gigglefeet Dance Festival. Brochures are now
available at the Arts Council, 713 Totem Way. Last year's subscribers
have until Sept 14 to reclaim reserved seats. Deadline to
enter to win Torch Nights season refund with purchase
is Sept 28th at 5pm.
The Fantasticks Tickets are Now Available! This
delightful musical debuted in 1960 and is the longest running
musical in history. The Fantasticks has a great coming-of-age
plot with multiple metaphorical undercurrents thrown in. The
shows will take place at the Plaza's Black Box Theatre on September
14, 15, 16, 21, 22 & 23 with doors opening at 7pm. For tickets

Workshops & Classes:
Bigfoot Pottery Studio is in the old Physical Graffiti building,
downstairs. Classes and the studios are again available at various

Inside Passages, Ketchikan's literary magazine, is entering
its eighteenth year of publication. Editors are looking for
poems (100 lines, maximum), short stories and essays (up to 2500
words), and artwork suitable for grayscale reproduction. Please
submit your work in the body of an email message (to info@ketchikanarts.org
<mailto:info@ketchikanarts.org> ) or on a digital CD.
Hard copies mailed in will be accepted as well. Publication
will be in November. Those selected for publication will receive
one copy of Inside Passages. Additional volumes may be purchased
at a discount. Inside Passages is published annually by the
Writers Forum, which is a program of the Arts Council. Submission
requirements: Please fill out the Inside Passages 2007-2008
Registration form with your name, address, phone number, title(s)
of your work and a 4-line biography. Registration forms are

SParks of Inspiration, Celebrate Alaska State Parks in Ketchikan.
This juried art show will take place at the Mainstay Gallery
Oct. 5-26, 2007. Free for Arts Council members and students,
or $25 for non-members. Works submitted for this exhibit must

1st Ever Art to Wear Fashion
Show: From Tip to Toe.
Curators Jean Bartos and Jackie Keizer invite designers creating
art to wear in any media to submit an application for participation.
Art to wear entries may include garments, jewelry and accessories
such as hats, scarves, shoes, belts, handbags, or other imaginative
accents. Completed entry forms must be received at the Mainstay
Gallery Friday March 14, 2008 by 5pm. The Fashion Show will
take place at the Plaza Mall from 6-8pm, Saturday, April 26,
2008. Works from the Fashion Show will also be displayed at the
Mainstay Gallery for the May exhibit. An opening reception will
be held at the gallery from 5-8pm, Friday, May 2, 2008. More

Venue for musicians at St.
John's Episcopal Church: Members
of St. John's are offering the use of the sanctuary for rehearsal
and performance space during non-service times. Please contact

Ongoing attractions:
Every Other Tuesday: Com-Unity Night! Come downtown
for music, activities and shopping in this effort to build community
spirit during the busy summer months. Locally owned businesses
have volunteered to stay open a few extra hours every other Tuesday.

Tongass Historical Museum Summer Exhibit opened on Friday,
May 4 at the Museum. First City: The Life and Times of Ketchikan
will be on display through the summer ending September 30th.

Xaadas Tak'anlang Haida Descendant Dancers: Dances will
be held on the second Friday of each month during the summer
at the Totem Bight Clan House. Dancing will go from 6:30-7:30

Story time at the Library
continues regularly
throughout the year on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 10:30am.
After some playtime, the librarian reads stories, sings songs,
does finger plays and shows a short film beginning around 10:40
am. This program is appropriate for infants through pre-school
age children.

Ray Troll's Vicious Fishes of The Amazon will be on
display at the Mainstay Gallery from September 7-28th. An opening
reception and piranha feeding will take place on Friday, September

KRBD invites to you The Married Man's Trail Saloon at
the Cape Fox Lodge This event will be postponed until a later
date. We will let you know when you can join us for an endless
night of entertainment. Cowboy cocktails will take place at 6:30pm,
followed by a Texas Style BBQ at 7PM. Contra dancing to live
music (and alternately not so live music) begins at 8:30PM. Games
in the Saloon will be going most of the night, with a raffle
drawing taking place at 11:30PM (must be present to win). Tickets

Council welcome our new Operations Manager, Kelly Lawler, to
Ketchikan. She is originally from Fort Bragg, California and
moved here in July with her new husband. She is very excited
