The NEW smell of Ketchikan
By Kimberly Morton

The sweet smell of summer is here. Walking around there are many humpies starting to change our air into what Ketchikan is known for. But I have been noticing there are more than humpies in the air.

If you took a walk on the old Ward Lake trail last week there was a fresh deer carcass right on the road, also down by South Point Higgins's beach there was 5 bags full of deer and a fresh carcass sitting right on the path. I know Whipple Creak has always been a great place to throw out your deer carcass but now it seems as if anywhere is a justifiable place to dump.

Most of the time I am walking my dogs and they are the first to smell it or come running out of the woods with a special treat in their mouths, but it's not just the dogs that can smell it!

Please have some courtesy for those that enjoy walking in the outdoors and make sure to find a better place for those deer so we don't have to hold our breath while in the fresh air.
