Five (5) Borough seats, two (2) Assembly (Mike Salazar and Todd Phillips), and three (3) School Board (Karen Eakes, Choc Schaffer, and Mott Olsen), all are three-year terms. The City Mayor (Lew Williams III), two (2) council members (Charles Freeman, Robert Sivertsen) for three-years and one (1) Council member (Matt Olsen), for a one-year term. There is a call for a few good people to step up and run for local office so we have more choices of candidates. I feel that the blend of people we already have needs some change and balance. Most folks have a concern or special interest, even though; there must be some who can come to the table with impartiality, and consideration for ALL the citizens. The community should have judgments based on the clear evaluation of issues that lead to sound decisions, relevant to, and in the best interest of the whole community, even when not popular. I believe our officials have an obligation to be unbiased, fiscally responsible and lawful in governing. Fiscal responsibility takes prudent decisions about the communal bank accounts, and monies that come to the local governments to manage. There must be more adherence to the intended use of the available monies and its expenditures, laws, rules, and guidelines. That does not mean "just sort of like guidelines," open for broad interpretation. We need local government that is balanced, fair, adheres to legalities, is fiscally sensible, plays by the same rules for everyone, and acknowledges the wishes of the majority. If you have ever thought about taking part in your community in this way, you can pick up the paper work at the City and/or Borough Clerks' Office.
