Letter to city voters
By Drew Lindner

August 19, 2010
Thursday AM

I use the library at least once a week and have been closely following the debate over a new library. We need a new library and most everybody agrees on this point. If you are still wondering whether to support the Copper Ridge site or the downtown Grant St. site, an informative call-in forum on KRBD with viewpoints from both sides can be found at  http://krbd.org/modules/local_news/index.php.

I am a borough resident so letters like this are the only way I can have a voice in the matter. After learning as much as I could about the issue it seems supporting Proposition 1 is the only way we will get a new library built and be able to fully take advantage of the 50% funding match being offered us by the state. I have been listening to a small group of vocal downtown business owners heavily spinning this process in an effort to keep the library downtown, but I believe a library plan should be about what is best for all of Ketchikan's residents and families, and not based on its value as a tourist destination. I am urging city voters to educate themselves on the issue and make their voices heard, since many of us will not be able to do so on Tuesday August 24. Please, support your Public Library and vote yes on prop 1, no on prop 2.
