On August 22 Out in the Rain will go with certified SCUBA instructors snorkeling in the ocean to look at our amazing underwater world. Gear will be provided to share, or people can bring their own. We will leave from the Craig Rec Center, Third and Spruce in Craig at 12 noon. Bring warm clothes to change into and a towel. On September 4 Out in the Rain will do an all day canoe tour of the Snakey Lakes near Thorne Bay. People should bring a canoe or kayak, clothes appropriate for the weather, a PFD, and lunch. We will leave from the Craig Rec Center, Third and Spruce in Craig at 8AM. On September 18 Out in the Rain will learn about local mushrooms from an expert and go foraging for edible mushrooms. We will meet at the Craig Rec Center for a short classroom session at 8AM, and then go into the woods. Bring clothes for the weather, a collecting basket, and a mushroom guide if you have one. On September 25 Out in the Rain will join the International Coastal Cleanup Day by going out with volunteers to clean the beaches of a local island. Marine debris and plastics are the focus of the cleanup. Transportation by boat, lunch, and a t-shirt will be provided. We will leave North Cove Harbor, Craig at 8AM. Bring rain gear. The Southeast Alaska Conservation Council, The Craig Community Association, the City of Craig Parks and Recreation Department, and the US Forest Service have partnered to present a series of recreational opportunities on Prince of Wales Island.
