The complaint was received on June 3, 2010, by Ketchikan Police Officers at which time the citizen reported that after answering the help wanted ad, the individual who allegedly posted it offered to pay her for a sexual favor(s). That "help wanted" ad had been an ongoing concern of SitNews prior to June 3rd and SitNews had taken action blocking the poster from use of the classifieds. The poster's IP number was later identified by SitNews as belonging to a reputable local business whose management requested resumption of the service. The business planned to identify the the poster using basic information provided by SitNews. With the resumption of access to the free classifieds service for the business, the "Ketchikan Lover" also resumed posting "help wanted" ads -- ads which were deleted. The "Ketchikan Lover" was a name given to the poster by SitNews based on the email address he provided in his ads. Unbeknownst to the "Ketchikan Lover", the Ketchikan Police Department was also interested in his "help wanted" ads. Ketchikan Police Department Corporal Rojas began an in-depth investigation that lasted several weeks. During this time, the SitNews' editor & publisher, Mary Kauffman, was contacted by Officer Purcell regarding any copies of the ads SitNews may have on file. Copies were made available along with information obtained regarding the originating location. According to a recent news release, the police investigation culminated in an operation that occurred in the early morning hours of August 16th. A police department employee, posing as a juvenile female, had both an electronic and voice conversation with the arrested. As a result of that conversation, Nathan B. Olsen of Ketchikan arrived a short time later at 410 Schoenbar Road. Officer Purcell and Corporal Rojas promptly arrested Olsen. Olsen was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center where he was booked for Online Enticement of a Minor, a Class B felony. Olsen is currently being held on a $25,000 bond. It should be stated that all
charges are only accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent
until proven guilty.
